Swimming Kits All Week Please!

Dear All,

Please can you send your child's swimming kit in all week please. As I am going to try and get Great Bear in the pool as much as I can!

There isn't a lot of spare slots to be honest, but if kits are in school then we can use the pool if there is one, especially as it is going to be very warm this week.

Thank you

Mrs D

Retelling Lost and Found

We have been using our puppets to retell the story with our innovated changes, it was great fun! Next week we are going to write our own version of Lost and Found.

Maths in the Sunshine!

This week we have been outside in the sunshine, learning about place value.

We were ordering numbers to 100 and creating a 100 square, we did it in our fastest time yet. We also sorted numbers to 30 into odd and even and then ordered them.

Painting Our Puppets

We have painted our puppets! Thank you to everyone who brought rolls in for us to use. The children have been innovating the story, ready to write their own version. So they chose to paint a boy or a girl, and a polar animal of their choice, which included a walrus, arctic owl and foxes.

RE Speaking and Listening

In RE we have been thinking about Jewish families and Shabbat, Shabbat is their holy day of worship. It starts on a Friday evening and ends on a Saturday evening, it is very important to Jewish families and it is a time for rest, worship and spending time with your family.

We thought about what a Jewish child would say if they were invited to a party on a Friday after school. We acted out the conversation, the children were brilliant and it was such a pleasure to see how much their confidence and speaking and listening has grown!

Lots of Little News Items

Hello, I can't believe we have been back such a short amount of time, we have already squeezed so much learning in!

The Phonics Check went fantastically, the children didn't even really know that we had done it. We need to wait now until the pass mark is released at the end of June. Parents will then receive a letter, the letter will tell you your child's results. I will of course be more than happy to chat to you about next steps if the results are not what we were hoping for. I will discuss the Check with the class' next teacher or teachers and support will be put in place for any child needing it.

Phonics is now replaced by spellings everyday. We will start to look at simple spelling rules and patterns, such as adding ing and ed to words.

Apologies for the typo on the letter. We have PE/Swimming on Tuesdays and Fridays, sorry for any confusion. Running Club is still on every Wednesday.

Please can we have any kitchen rolls tubes you might have in your recycling boxes, asap. We will be using them to create "Lost and Found" puppets to help us with our story telling and writing .

Thank you for all your support, it is really appreciated.

The Phonics Check is Here!

This week coming (11th June) is National Phonics Check week! I will be starting to check the children on Tuesday and carry on during Wednesday if needed.

Please can you have one final practise of phonics over the weekend and Monday evening, a previous blog has lots of links to resources.

The results, pass or not pass will come to you in the form of a letter.

Thank you for all your support!

Our Start to Term 6

Great Bear has had a busy start to our last term together, so busy in fact that Mrs D forgot to take any photos!

We have been working hard on learning about position and direction in Maths, the children have been using positional language and solving quite tricky problems!

We have also started learning the story Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers, the idea is that we know and understand the story inside out and back to front so that we can use it to write our own version of the story.

Thank You For A Lovely Year!

A huge thank you for all my lovely presents and cards, I love them. Thank you also for the wonderful year Great Bear and I have had toget...
