Maths Resources Fun

This week we have been really trying to stretch our Maths learning by understanding tens and units and how numbers are made. We used lots of different resources to help, Beebot robots, tens frames, Numacon and base ten. Base ten is made up of rods that represent 10s and cubes that represent units or ones.

Here we are having lots of fun!

Super Sentences!

This week we have been looking at writing sentences with super word choices and conjunctions (joining words, like and or because)

.

Great Bear had lots of brilliant ideas and worked really hard. We are going to put our ideas into a longer piece of writing next time we write.

Number Bonds!

Great Bear ahve spent all week looking at Number bonds, we have been focusing on number bonds to 10 but have also started to look at how we might work out number bonds to 20 as well.

We have been writing them in number sentences (calculations) and using resources to show them visually.

Here is our super work.

Fantastic Home Learning

Thank you so much for all the time and effort that went into the Home Learning. The children were really excited to share their learning with everyone, they were super proud and rightly so!

I have posted these photos on Facebook, so apologies if you have already seen them but here they are again.

PE Kits

Please can the children have their PE kits in school all week but definitely on a Wednesday and Friday.

Also, girls really need a pair of socks to change into when doing PE. Tights are not the best item of clothing to be doing PE in and having bare feet in trainers is not too good either.

Thank you for your support

Mrs D.

Parent's Meeting

Thank you to everyone who was able to join me on Wednesday.

We talked about the change in learning pace in Year One and the importance of reading at home.

Things have moved quite quickly over the last term and the Great Bear children are now expected to do more learning independently.

I am a huge advocate of reading and believe very strongly in the power of reading and instilling a love of books very early on. In fact large amounts of research show that reading is a more powerful tool to success than gender, race of socioeconomic background.

I then went over the National Year One Phonics Check, what it is and what will happen during the check, how parents/cares are informed of the results and next steps if children don't pass.

There will be an information leaflet for you to read at Parents' Evening, if you didn't make the meeting.

Finally, I would like to invite you to come in and see some Phonics learning in action, in the classroom. Just so that you can see what happens at school and pick up extra ideas on how to support Phonics learning at home. I am planning to run two sessions, one at 9.00am and the other at 2.45pm both will be on the same day. Dates will be posted ASAP, it will be a date in late November.
