So I thought it might be helpful if I went over how to use them. You will need some small counters, pasta, Lego bricks or stones. If the number was 34 it would be represented with 3 stones in the tens side and 4 in the ones side.

Using a Place Value Grid
As part of our Home Learning this week I have sent home a place value grid. The children have been using them but they are a very new resources to them.
So I thought it might be helpful if I went over how to use them. You will need some small counters, pasta, Lego bricks or stones. If the number was 34 it would be represented with 3 stones in the tens side and 4 in the ones side.

A Dragon Visitor
This week we had a visitor help us with our letter writing, a dragon! It wrote to us to thank us for looking after its egg.
We did have to help with its letter writing skills though, we are hoping it writes back soon. There were even claw marks in the letter!

Marvellous Maths
Our first topic this in Maths this term has been place value with numbers up to 50, we have been counting and looking at how numbers are made up from tens and units or ones.
To develop our understanding we have been using the part, part whole model. Here we are using tens and units to show two digit numbers. Amazing learning!

Admin Error!
This term we are looking at non-fiction in English and we are starting off with writing letters. So I decided it would be great for the children to receive a letter in the post during Half Term, letters are very rarely sent these days, especially if you are 5 or 6!
However as it was Half Term I was unable to access everyone's addresses, I thought I might be able to but without our lovely Office Ladies it wasn't possible.
So sadly the letters will be hand delivered on Monday, not quite the effect I was hoping for but hopefully it will still support our letter writing.
We will be writing to an author and posting the letters ourselves, we will let you know about any replies we get.

Fantastic Dragon Learning
Great Bear has had a great time using dragons as a stimulus AND their learning has been super. In particular their writing that has been inspired by all the dragon stories and books we have read, watched and listened to.
Here are some photos of the brilliant displays in our classroom featuring our dragon learning.

Home Learning Treat
Great Bear Class chose extra play and a snack time treat as their reward for Home Learning. They also chose 30 stars as their target for Home Learning. This meant we would need at least 15 children a week to complete their Home Learning, we actually achieved 35!
Here we are enjoying a biscuit as part of our snack.

Ben Fletcher's Visit
Friday afternoon was so much fun! The circuit training was really lively and we all worked hard and laughed lots, Mrs D even joined in too. Luckily there are no photos to support this though!
Ben was an excellent speaker and really engaged the children, hopefully he has inspired some children at Rowde to try Judo or another new sport.
It was a fantastic way to end the term.

Our Last In The Spotlight Before Half Term!
We really love listening to each other speak and the children are growing in confidence! We also have a really wide range of things to look at and learn about which is great. Next Term we will be working on our questioning skills.
