Dragon Films
This week we have been drawing dragons and writing descriptions of dragons and then using them to make a film about our dragons.
We used a free app called Shadow Puppets and the children picked up the skills very quickly!I have posted them on Facebook but here they are, fingers crossed it works!

New Home Learning
Hopefully our new home learning will have made it home to you! Here is some further details of the home learning and how it will work. On Monday we are going to discuss our first class reward as the end of term is only 2 weeks away!
Dear Parents and Carers of Great Bear Class,
Home learning has changed a little; each child will receive a
weekly home learning grid that contains a variety of activities to do over the
week. The activities are directly related to key Year One skills and the
National Curriculum.
The expectation is that one or two activities will be
completed each day, with each activity lasting around 10 minutes. Please can
you initial and date when you and your child have completed an activity, I will
collect the completed grids on a Friday and send home a new one with different
activities for the next week. Each week will be slightly different, however
they will have a common theme and things such as reading and spelling won’t
change.
Great Bear Class will be using Home Learning to “earn” stars;
every time an activity is completed it will earn the child and the class as a
whole a star. The stars will be used to work towards a whole class reward, and
the children will also be able to choose an individual reward too. We will
start a new tally at the beginning of each new term.
We are very excited to be starting this and are looking
forward to our first reward just before Half Term!
Please
let me know if you have any questions or would like to discuss Home Learning.
Thank you
for all your support.

Mouse Control
This week we had our second learning session with the laptops, we were looking at mouse control. Moving the cursor, clicking and click and drag, all of this had to be done using an external mouse, this is to help us use the laptops for drawing painting and creating.
Art and Science
This week Great Bear have been painting and describing different objects, thinking about the materials they are made from.
First In the Spotlight of 2018!
Here are our first lovely "Spotlighters". We heard about a favourite book, a birthday fairy and fossils. They all did a brilliant job and we love listening to the talks.
Maths using Numicon
We use Numicon a lot in Great Bear, here you can see us in action using it to help us with addition, each piece represents a number and the pieces fit together to make larger numbers. You can use it for all of the 4 operations in Maths and we love it!

Letters and Home Learning
Hopefully letters about this term and In The Spotlight have come home, I have spares if they haven't!
I have also been thinking about how to do something different with home learning and news about this will be coming home on Friday.

Back In To It!
This week we have jumped straight into learning and working really hard and Great Bear have just taken it all in their stride and got "straight back on the learning horse" after the long and lovely break.
Here are photos from our week, there are lots because there has been so much learning!
Sorting materials in Science, inside and outside!
Penguin Calculations, each penguin has a target number on its tummy, you need to find that matching calculation and put a peg on it. There were addition and subtraction, sometimes there was more than 1 correct answer.
Using the laptops to draw pictures of dragons, it was quite tricky as for many it was the first time of using a mouse but they did really well.
